Daddy Vigo & People’s Sound. No history of rhythm and sound in North Kensington would be complete without Daddy Vigo and People’s Sound. Daddy Vigo (1942-2016) was among the first to bring the sounds and rhythms of Jamaica to the area, and his independant record shop ‘People’s Sound’ stocks a huge range of artists and music. Ska, Rock Steady, Reggae, Dub, Lovers Rock, Roots, Ragga, Jungle, Soca, R&B, Jazz, Blues, Soul and Dancehall.

Von Barrington Adams, better known as ‘Daddy Vigo’ first came to the UK from Jamaica in 1956 and was one of a group of Jamaicans who were influential in promoting Jamaican music and culture in the UK. He was the founder of the ‘Original People’s Sound’ Sound System, the original ‘Selector’ and the Proprietor of the now world famous ‘Peoples Sound Record Shop in the heart of North Kensington.
